The Secret Is Out – Social Media Is Work

Very busy as of late and this morning I was catching up on my favorite bloggers. This particular post grabbed my attention, “Social Media is a Lotta damned work”. First, I laughed, thinking “isn’t that the truth”, but then continued to read and found Mack’s candor on the topic refreshing.
I was first drawn to The Viral Garden, though a meeting with Mack Collier, the author on Twitter. I enjoy his candor on Twitter and then began to explore his blog and have been a fan every since.
There are many great blogs writing about etiquette, what to do, what not to [...]

What is LinkedIn?

What is LinkedIn’s real purpose?  It is a social networking platform for making connections, right? Wrong.
Wrong? I was sure surprised to learn I had been using LinkedIn improperly.
Hmmm, that must be the reason they “blocked” me from contacting people in my groups, without their email address.  LinkedIn was nice about it, stating they would remove it, if I basically acknowledged I now understood the concept.
Interesting enough, even if I had watched this video, and completely understood the concept of LinkedIn, I probably would have contacted “group” members.  I consider a “group” as a collection of people sharing common interests and [...]

Brands using Twitter

Anyone who knows me or engages with me on Twitter, soon realizes I believe in the power of Twitter.  It has become one of my favorite daily social networking tools.  A surprise considering I started with the question “what is a twitter”.
No morning paper for me anymore, just coffee, blogs and my Twitter peeps, for the first hours each day.  Topics change by the minute as information is spread through Twitterville.  Over the past few weeks, I have noticed an increase in brand discussion, the leading question, what brands are on Twitter?
The blog Fluent Simplicity dedicates an entire page titled [...]

Beginning Your Online Social Network

I have found this to be a to be a complement to traditional face-to-face networking.
Businesses are expanding globally and online social networks make it easier to develop business, promote, communicate and share resources around the world. It has helped make it easier for small and medium sized companies to grow their networks and compete in the global market place.
Where to start? That is indeed a great question, one I had in the beginning. I started with one of my favorite internet resources, about.com.
They had several articles to point me in the right direction. The first Online Business Networking Tip: Be [...]

Learning to Change – Changing to Learn

This is a very interesting video, “Learning to Change – Changing to Learn”.  It was created by Pearson Education, Inc. is an international publisher of textbooks and other educational material, such as multimedia learning tools.
It begins with this statement:
“The US Department of Commerce ranked 55 industry sectors on their level of IT intensiveness.  Education ranked number 55, just below coal mining.”

Please watch, consider and let me know your thoughts, in both school & business education changes.

We encourage you to share, any of our posts that you find interesting or useful.  Please feel free to repost portions or the entire post, [...]

Twitter In Plain English

Common Craft has created a reputation, for taking complex ideas, and turning them into short, unique and understandable videos.
I thought this would be a nice compliment to the posting “Twitter, What is a Twitter” and “Twitter Two Months & Counting”.
Common Craft has many more enjoyable videos, on their website as well as on YouTube, teaching Social Media services and applications in a easy to understand format.

I hope you enjoy and if you know of any other useful videos of Twitter, please let me know.

Word-of-Mouth 2.0

I’ve been thinking lately about how rapidly information spreads within Social Networks, through this second generation of Word-of-Mouth Marketing.

Word-of-Mouth Marketing has always been considered one of the most powerful and effective Marking tools available, and it doesn’t cost a dime.

In the past, Word-of-Mouth Marketing could only spread as fast as an Influence and Authority Network’s reach. But today, Social Networking through mediums like You Tube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Second Life has made it super viral.

Viral marketing uses pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness through self-replicating viral processes that can spread world-wide very quickly. [...]

Twitter – Two Months & Counting

In the two months I have been testing this tool, I have discovered far more benefits to Twitter than ever imagined. It strikes me as funny, that I have only been using Twitter for a few months, because I already have created some wonderful relationships. This alone has made my Twittering experience worthwhile.
In addition to making new contacts and friends, I have been lead to valuable resources, helpful links, new social networking services, evaluations of new communication tools, alternative phone services, advice, support, and education and been witness to new ideas and the use of future technology.
It makes me smile, [...]
