Building New Skills… The 4 Phases of Skill Development

Learning 101….Old School / New School continued…..

That was over 25 years ago… and now, over 10,000 books later, and a dedication to the Training Industry as my primary business throughout the last couple of decades… I thought I would go “Back To Basics”, and share the simple Lessons on Learning that he shared with me.

I encourage you to listen to each of these 4 short “Podcasts” to “relive the lessons” that made such a profound impact on me, when Learning transformed from a “chore” to an exciting “challenge”, and was the catalyst to build a successful career.

Here is the second of four consecutive daily posts.

Building New Skills… The 4 Phases of Skill Development

  1. Unconscious Incompetence – You don’t know that you don’t know what you are doing
  2. Conscious Incompetence – You know that you don’t know what you are doing
  3. Conscious Competence – You know what to do and force yourself to do it
  4. Unconscious Competence – You work on total reflex, the skill becomes a part of you
